"Terror by Gaslight" Opens Friday

Published on: October 20, 2011

Terror by Gaslight, the final show in the Winder-Barrow Community Theatre 2011 Main Stage Season, will open on Friday, October 28th and run for two weekends. The Friday and Saturday shows start at 7:30 pm, and the Sunday matinees start at 3:00 pm. Tickets are now on sale at Winder City Hall (770-867-3106) and Pam Veader’s State Farm Insurance Office at 41 S. Center Street in Winder (770-867-1679). Advance tickets are only $10 for seniors, students and teachers and $12.50 for adults. This show does have some scary scenes and violence and is not recommended for young children.

Directed by Terri Duffield and Stephen Parker, this show will be a great start to your Halloween celebration. The play takes place in Philadelphia during the early 1800’s in the “Private School of Anatomy” of Dr. Cyrus Norton. Dr. Norton is dedicated to creating his anatomical museum so that surgeons can learn from all of the specimens he has collected. However, there are problems with procuring these specimens. The show’s climax will surprise you as you feel the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. This show is designed to scare you, and the directors and cast hope they achieve this goal.

A portion of the income from this show will be donated by WBCT to the Piedmont Rape Crisis Center. This nonprofit group helps sexual assault victims and also works in Barrow, Jackson and Banks Counties on advocacy, support, community awareness and education about sexual assault. The Rape Crisis Center provides numerous services for survivors of sexual violence and their families. For more information about the Center, please call 770-586-5423 or see their website at www.piedmontrapecrisis.org.
