Published on: September 2, 2011
Derek Hutchins, the director of the Winder Boys & Girls Club recently accepted a donation from Winder-Barrow Community Theatre President, Tery Overbey. This donation was presented as a part of the WBCT ongoing program of recognizing a local nonprofit group at each play that they present. "Father of the Bride" closed in August, and this donation was a part of the proceeds from that show.
The Boys & Girls Club of Winder-Barrow County was founded in 1999 and has been in the forefront of youth development while working with young people from disadvantaged circumstances. It operates a neighborhood-based facility designed exclusively for children and teens. The Club is available and affordable to all boys and girls ages 6 to 18 during the critical hours after school ends, during the summer, and most school holidays. Their mission is to help youth of all backgrounds, especially those who need them most, to realize their full potential as responsible, caring and productive citizens and leaders.
Programs and activities at the club are modeled around five core program areas: the arts, character and leadership development, education and career development. For more information about how you can help the club, contact Derek Hutchins at 770-307-1399.
Winder-Barrow Community Theatre was founded in 2002 and has strived to reach children of all ages through summer drama camps each year as well as a children's show during the summer. A family Christmas show is also presented each year with children, teens, and adults in the cast. For more information about WBCT upcoming events and shows, please see the website.
