Adults are $12.50 in advance. Tickets purchased at the door are $13 and $15. Tickets can be purchased at Winder City Hall (770-867-3106) by credit/debit card, cash or check. “The Father of the Bride”, published in 1949, was originally a novel written by Edward Streeter, an American novelist and journalist. The novel became the source for two movies, each of which inspired a sequel. The first movie, starring Spencer Tracey and Elizabeth Taylor, was directed by Vincent Minnelli and received three Oscar nominations. The play version was adapted by Caroline Francke and published in 1951, one year after the first movie. A television series with the same title was aired on CBS in 1961 and 1962 with a total of 34 episodes.

Most audience members will be familiar with the Steve Martin version which was released in 1991. You will find that the stage production is more about family relationships. Mr. Banks is a loving father who has the usual problems involved in trying to understand women-especially his daughter. In spite of the turmoil surrounding this important family event, he manages to retain his dignity (most of the time) and supports his family in what proves to be a monumental occasion. Throughout the play we are reminded that he is a loving father who will make sacrifices to give his daughter, and his wife, a perfect wedding.

Directed by Elinor Hasty, this is a show you don’t want to miss. As a part of the WBCT ongoing Community Service Program, part of the proceeds of this show will be donated to the Boys and Girls Club in Winder to benefit young people in the area.
