"Bye Bye Birdie" Hits the Stage

The cast and crew of the upcoming Winder-Barrow Community Theatre production of “Bye Bye Birdie” have been rehearsing long and hard hours in order to provide you with a wonderful musical experience. Come and join them as they sing and dance throughout the show. Directed by the capable trio of Elinor Hasty (Director), Candace Stoffel (Musical Director, choreographer, accompanist), and Susan Pierce (Assistant Director), this show is sure to be a sellout. Show dates are August 6, 7, 13, & 14 at 7:30 pm and August 8 & 15 at 3:00 pm. Tickets can be purchased now at Winder City Hall (770-867-3106) with credit cards and also at Pam Veader’s State Farm Insurance office at 41 S. Center Street in Winder (770-867-1679) with cash or check. If you purchase your tickets in advance, the price is only $10 for seniors (55 and older), teachers, and students, and $12.50 for adults. Tickets are higher at the door.
“Bye Bye Birdie” by Michael Stewart, Charles Strouse, and Lee Adams is a satire that takes place in 1958 and is centered around an Elvis Presley type rock and roll superstar named Conrad Birdie. Conrad has been drafted into the army so his agent, Albert Peterson, and his secretary, Rosie Alvarez, plan a huge farewell performance for Birdie on the Ed Sullivan Show. The show is to end with a kiss being bestowed on a lucky girl from Birdie’s fan club. The excitement begins as Birdie arrives in the town of Sweet Apple to meet the girl and her family.
A portion of every ticket sold will be donated to the Piedmont Regional Library as the WBCT Community Service recipient for this show. WBCT donates money from every show to a nonprofit group in Barrow County as part of their “community” theatre efforts.
