$1213 Donated to John Hasty Band Scholarship
Published on: October 17, 2012
Elinor Hasty and Billie Nye-Muller recently presented a check for $1213 to Jerry Pharr, the band director at Russell Middle School. This money was donated from part of the proceeds of the recent production of "Steel Magnolias" by the Winder-Barrow Community Theatre. This show was a benefit show where all of the profit from the show was split between two scholarship funds for children.
The money donated to the Russell Middle School Band will be added to the John Hasty Memorial Band Scholarship and will be used to send 6th or 7th grade band students to Encore Music Camp at Georgia College and State University. This camp is specifically for middle school students who want to excel in band. The students chosen to attend the camp will be selected based on the criteria of the John Hasty Memorial Band Scholarship, and it is hoped that three students will be able to attend this year because of this large donation.
The other part of the show profit will be used to fund scholarships to Drama Camp for students from the Boys & Girls Club. Winder-Barrow Community Theatre is a nonprofit group who always donates a part of each show's profit to other local nonprofit groups.
